Introducing our exquisite set of bookends, featuring the classic symbols of the financial world - a bull and a bear. Each figure stands majestically on a textured, rocky base, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship of Paul Herzel, a renowned sculptor known for his animal designs. Both pieces bear the signature of Herzel and are dated back to 1922, adding a touch of historical significance.

Crafted through electroforming, these bookends have a bronze-like skin made from copper deposited onto a plaster form. This unique process was popular in the early 20th century, allowing companies to create decorative items with the appearance and weight of solid bronze at a more accessible price point.

Made by Pompeian Bronze, a notable New York City company of the 1920s, these bookends are stamped with the company's name on the base. They are listed as stock number 170 in our original Pompeian Bronze catalogue, reflecting their authenticity and historical value.

The condition of these bookends is remarkable, with no damage to the bronze cladding, no visible nicks, dents, or damage to the corners of the bases. Detailed images of each figure's underside and the connection points to the base are provided to assure their integrity, especially in the more delicate areas. The bull’s finer details, like its tail, horns, and ears, remain perfectly intact, and both figures rest stably and evenly.

These bookends are not just decorative items; they are significant in weight and presence. The bull stands at 7 inches tall with a base measuring 7 1/4 inches by 2 1/4 inches, while the bear matches in size but stands slightly shorter at 6 inches. Together, they weigh just over 8 pounds.

These bookends are more than just functional; they are a statement piece and an ideal gift for anyone with a passion for trading or an appreciation for unique historical artifacts.
